Queensland Floods

Australia Flooding Map 2011 2010 floods pics images

For friends and family not in Australia who have been wondering/worrying about if the floods they’re hearing about are effecting us –

Thankfully we are well clear of the actual flooded areas (note Sydney on the map). I’m hearing that an area twice the size of Texas is currently under water (?!) so all of Australia will feel some repercussions. There are major rivers in Queensland that flow inland, so even if we started having nice weather from now on, it will be months before all that water gets to where it’s going and things normalize.

The Key of Awesome

John can spend the afternoon just watching parody videos.  I don’t share the fascination, but some are funny.

The Back Garden

IMG00244-20110104-1958At the new place we don’t have a big back yard.  In fact, you could say we don’t have any yard.  Most of the back is a covered bricked area with a garden on the side.  I’m sure when the garden was planted there was a plan.  As you can see, it’s now pretty overgrown.  From what I’ve been able to tell, there are different levels to the garden as it goes back.  The trick will be thinning out some of the extra plants without disturbing the ones we keep too much.

IMG00245-20110104-1958One of the big negatives for the space is the height of the covered area is a little bit on the short side.  I’m learning – I have a couple ridges and a slight concussion from smacking my head on the support beam.

IMG00243-20110104-1954We’ve started putting out some wild bird seed in an attempt to attract some birds like we had at the old place.  Yesterday was the first time we saw a cockatoo stop by.  When we got home from work today, all the seed was gone, so the word must be spreading.  Maybe this weekend we’ll get to see what we’re attracting.
