Microsoft’s Courier Cancelled?

Microsoft Cancels Innovative Courier Tablet Project

A year(?) ago I was excited to see a video about a folder-like portable pc that responded to touch and pen.  Well, it looks like it’s been cancelled.  Some of the features I liked seem to be in the new Windows 7 phones – but I haven’t met a cell phone I like yet.

Teabaggers Untie!

teabag I’ve heard it said that spelling isn’t a measure of intelligence, it’s a matter of memorization.  Of course, I heard that from an idiot who had horrible spelling.

Someone on flickr has put together a lovely collection of teabagger signs. (although I’m sure they were all done by liberals to make the teabaggers look bad… yea, right.)

Sunday Blasphemy – Atheist Barbie

201004091022

I think I’ve mentioned before that when I was a child my father wouldn’t let me have any dolls for fear they’d make me gay – not even G.I. Joes, or any type of action figure.  So when I got tired of playing with my Lite-Brite, I started making clothes for my sister’s dolls.

Surprise - Bush Lied

guantanamoWhat shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, since it was reported at the time; the Bush administration lied about the guilt of many Guantanamo detainees.  I guess the news is the level of the official coming clean.

While I’m sure there were more than a few bad people in the initial roundups, the truth is that hundreds of people were gathered – offered by Afghans and Pakistanis in return for bounties of up to $5,000 each – with little or no evidence.  Some were children as young as 12, others elderly – as old as 93.

The administration knew they had absolutely no reason to hold them, but rationalized that the kidnapping and imprisonment (sometimes torture) of innocent people was acceptable as they made their case for invasion.

Referring to Mr Cheney, Colonel Wilkerson, who served 31 years in the US Army, asserted: “He had absolutely no concern that the vast majority of Guantánamo detainees were innocent ... If hundreds of innocent individuals had to suffer in order to detain a handful of hardcore terrorists, so be it.

He alleged that for Mr Cheney and Mr Rumsfeld “innocent people languishing in Guantánamo for years was justified by the broader War on Terror and the small number of terrorists who were responsible for the September 11 attacks”.

He added: “I discussed the issue of the Guantánamo detainees with Secretary Powell. I learnt that it was his view that it was not just Vice-President Cheney and Secretary Rumsfeld, but also President Bush who was involved in all of the Guantánamo decision making.”

There are still 180 people being held at the facility, even though President Obama’s initial deadline for closing has passed.  There is no doubt that some of the innocents eventually released, became insurgents due to their treatment.

Sunday Blasphemy: Easter Candy

qN5k3

I’m not sure how regular I’ll be doing Sunday Blasphemy in the future.  They’re fun but I hate deadlines. :)  Actually the Christians here seem so much less obnoxious than the evangelicals in the US.  It’s almost as if they consider their religion to be something between themselves and their god as opposed to a basis for legislating everyone else’s behavior.

The eggs here are mostly brown.  I’m sure there must be some white one, or at least some pale blue-ish green ones that would work better for the traditional egg decorating.  I haven’t notice any egg colouring kits in the stores with the other Easter goods.  Happy peeps and jelly beans to everyone.  May the Easter bilby bring you lots of goodies.
