I like my reality airbrushed – but…

original

They had this posted over at the Huffington Post.  I’m mostly posting this to see if the Disqus plug in works and how it looks.

I appreciate the ability to correct cosmetic imperfections – red eye, pimples, broccoli in your teeth.  I also think it’s cool they can slap in a new background, adjust for lighting, etc.

I think it goes a little too far when they do reconstruction on photos of real people.  Jessica Alba isn’t too fat and doesn’t need a boob job.  I can understand why so many women have body image issues when they’re competing with physical impossibilities.

  1. As somebody who is called to do this kind of work from time to time, I can tell you it's only going to get worse.

When I started, it was just minor touch-ups. Now, art directors are violating laws of physics and anatomy to get what they want, and they just don't care.

Sometimes the change-notes I get are so extensive that you can realistically say that the person I end up with is completely different than the person they photographed. And I use the word "person" lightly, because they're fictional characters once I'm done! :-)

  2. My partner and I want to hire you. Can you take 30# off him and 60# off me?
