Wollersheim Tour
An old friend of mine was visiting from Tennessee this week and one of the things on his list was a tour of a Wisconsin winery that he'd grown fond of before moving away. I thought it would be fun to go with (it surprised me the John didn't since he loves their Prairie Fume so much).
Wollersheim Winery is only about a half hour away. They have nicely landscaped grounds and sheltered areas with tables where people can bring picnics. The tour takes about 45 minutes during which they tell you about the history of the winery and walk you through the facility and process of making their wine. At the end of the tour there is a wine tasting. They had 4 wines they offered, but all their wines were available by request to sample.
It was a good idea for them to offer additional samples :). I
was planning on just getting a few more bottles of Prairie Fume, but when I tried their Dry Riesling, I had to get several bottles of that. The Beaujolais seemed to have more fragrance than taste, but would be great for cooking so I had to get a couple bottles of that. The Blushing Rose demanded I get at least 2 bottles to further evaluate it. I've never tried a port before, just port wine cheese, I could see enough occasions for this wine to get a couple bottles. They also have a sister winery that makes an excellent Cranberry Blush that I used to round out the second case that I purchased.
